Degree Show Exhibition

BA Fine Art : Lancaster university

June 18th - June 25th

After spending three years developing my creative practice in sculpture, as a collective year group we organised and curated our degree show exhibition, for which I produced and displayed a body of work which showcased the skills and concepts that I had refined.

My Exhibition

My work explores the interconnectedness of humans and nature by highlighting the

symbiotic relationship that binds us to the natural world.

I use wire as the main material for my figurative sculptures which acts as a metaphor for

mycelium; the thin, filament-like structures that form underground fungal networks. The intricate

crossing of wire reflects the complex and interconnected systems of mycelium that exist

beneath the surface of our world, these networks are often unseen, yet their role in

decomposition and regeneration of nutrients is essential to support plant growth, the

environment and human life.

The human figures formed from this network represent the deep connection between humanity

and nature. It is a visual reminder that we, too, are part of these systems. The figures stand in

an interaction which, like mycelium, represents the importance of our social and biological

interdependence, a network of organisms constantly interacting, exchanging, and evolving

together.

My sculptures explore the idea that humans are not separate from the natural world but are

instead emergent from it. Just as mycelium supports life underground, it also metaphorically

supports human existence. In many ways, we are mycelium; physically connected,

interdependent, and sustained by the invisible threads of the earth.
